I've been working on creating a portfolio for 5x8 notepads commonly found in office supply stores. I like that size of notebook for lots of things, and I like this idea of putting some pretty paper around it. I didn't have instructions for this; I was making it up as I went along. I have made similar notebooks/portfolios from Club Scrap projects, so I drew on that experience to guide me along. I made mistakes along the way, but by the third one, I had a good prototype.
The first one uses paper from Club Scrap's kit called Be Still. I wanted the portfolio to be reusable, so I created a sleeve inside so that when the notepad was empty, you can slide it out and put in a new pad.
I liked this one, but I didn't like having the pen on the outside of the portfolio. I had forgotten to attach it to the inside cover before I glued the paper down. So I tried again. I had other problems with my second attempt. (Not the least of which was, I put the front cover paper on upside down. Oops!) I also put the pen too far in on the left, so it pushed the notepad sleeve over too far, and caused some buckling when the notepad is closed. I'll not bother posting those pictures.
My third attempt went better. In fact, it is almost perfect. But somehow, after I finished it and took its picture, I realized that I have a thin gap in the two cover papers at the top and bottom - the one side of the matte board I used was white, so the white shows through the gap in the papers a little too much. But other than that, I am pleased with this portfolio.
These use Club Scrap's Musical Interlude kit papers.
